The origins of modern paganism

Life is a personal way for each person, and all of us are having are having references points when going on our way from one place to another. In life, on going from birth to death, we all have the same references points but the context is different. Many people's faith in one god or another is one of their references, and when those faith are becoming too close many conflicts and war started from that - your god is the single and the most real god and all the other references point does not matter, right?

This lecture was recorded by Ronald Hutton, the Gresham Professor of Divinity, on 30th October 2024 at Barnard's Inn Hall, London and it's a deeper exploration of Paganism begins with its roots in the Victorian and Edwardian eras, and the question of how ancient paganism was regarded then. It considers the mainstream views of that paganism in that period, which veered between regarding it as a religion of ignorance, tyranny and bloodshed, and one of great artistic and literary achievements that prepared the way for one of the current religions - Christianity. It goes on to show how new ideas about it developed amongst radicals, which preserved the admiration for the accomplishments of ancient paganism while throwing away the caveats.
