How is the next Pope chosen and what is the secret conclave?

The big yesterday news was Pope Francis dying, a bad thing but that's life, and that death has triggered a mourning period which involves centuries-old rites. One of those rites is the process for electing a new pontiff after burying Pope Francis this Saturday in a more simpler place than the previous Popes.

BBC is telling us from Vatican that a conclave can be expected to be held between 15 and 20 days after Francis's death. So, what next after the death of the spiritual leader of the Roman Catholic Church? I am not Christian but the talks will be interesting even for me because they are one of the clues about the world context and it may give us some lead about what's about to happen on Earth in the next years and it may give some clues about how the next Pope will react to them.
