The Apollo program, also known as Project Apollo, was the United States human spaceflight program carried out by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, which succeeded in preparing and landing the first men on the Moon in 1969. The last USA human flight to the Moon was Apollo 17 taking place between 7 and 19 December 1972. It was a 12-day mission that broke many records like the longest space walk, the longest lunar landing and the largest lunar samples brought back to Earth.
About 52 years later USA has not send humans to the Moon and they are thinking about that and they already took some steps in that direction. People say they are struggling to do that even when they are thinking to make a base there. In the series the characters already made that base on the Moon and they started in a hurry to send humans to Mars - the competitions with the Soviets is still on. It would have been interesting to watch that in real life instead of the low exploration and no human mission to the Moon from now.
