Mark Zuckerberg, chairman and CEO of the social media company Meta former named Facebook like one of its products, said in a letter to the House Judiciary committee that his teams were pressured by the Biden White House to censor some content around or during the covid-19 pandemic. He vowed that the social media giant would push back if it faced such demands again.
It is said that Facebook was “repeatedly pressured” for months to take down “certain COVID-19 content including humor and satire”.
Free speech is a good thing but it can became a bad thing if there are spread a lot of false or even bad information. If that information puts in danger life because the viruses like covid-19 are spreading faster because of that bad ideas than censorship is necessary. People are saying lots of things on social medias including Facebook and some of those things are good, others are bad or really bad. Being pressured to censor some content can be good or bad depending the result. If that censorship guarantees a better helth it's good, and if that censhorship is making people less free in matter of speech or actions than it's bad. The illegal speech and action are not taken into consideration.
