Heart of the Sea (2015)

The movie tells the tale of Nantucket whaling ship the Essex, the true story that took place in 1820 and inspired author Herman Melville to write Moby Dick (but he told only one half of the story): a whaling ship was smashed apart by a giant sperm whale, stranding its crew at sea for 90 days, thousands of miles from home, and the struggles of the 21 men aboard who fought to survive. The movie will hit the cinemas in UK March 13th 2015.

In the winter of 1820, the New England whaling ship Essex was assaulted by something no one could believe: a whale of mammoth size and will, and an almost human sense of vengeance. The real-life maritime disaster made history in literature, and the movie In the Heart of the Sea reveals the encounter’s harrowing aftermath, as the ship’s surviving crew is pushed to their limits and forced to do the unthinkable to stay alive. Braving storms, starvation, panic and despair, the men will call into question their deepest beliefs from the value of their lives to the morality of their trade as their captain searches for direction on the open sea and his first mate still seeks to bring the great whale down.
