The author means that Fedora occupied 2 years ago the place that Ubuntu used to have in terms of Linux distributions. Fedora was among the first to adopt Wayland, the first distro to adopt Pipewire, to push Flatpak, portals, the first mainstream Linux distribution to push immutable filesystems in Fedora Silverblue. Everything was a good thing and you may use Fedora if you decide you migrate on Linux because operating systems like Windows and macOS don't like you anymore. I am not telling you to migrate on Linux, there are operating systems for each person and taste, but if you want to migrate on Linux you may use Fedora.
