European commission president Ursula von der Leyen faced vote for her second term

Today members of the European Parliament voted in Strasbourg on whether to grant Ursula von der Leyen a second five-year term as president of the EU’s executive commission. The secret ballot at the 720-seat parliament came hot on the heels of strong gains by the far right in last month’s election for the European Parliament.

The conclusion is that the lawmakers gave the former and current European Commission president green light for another five years: Ursula von der Leyen won second term as European Commission president. She was elected again with 401 votes in a secret ballot, well above the 360 votes she needed to be elected. There were 284 votes in opposition, 15 abstentions and 7 votes declared invalid.

At least for the moment that result seems to be good. Time will that if it is really good and if it remains good for another 5 years.
