Witch-hunting in European and world history

Watching the series Supernatural made me a little more interesting about witches (they are still just another story but let me think about them as a little more interesting fictional story) because of many characters their being witches. Also liking the history I know about the witch hunting all over the world - people just did not want men and especially women knowing more things than them and thinking better or different than them.

That historical issue seems to be still present: this lecture confronts the worldwide phenomenon of the persecution of suspected witches, now a serious, contemporary problem condemned by the Unites Nations in the year 2021. This lecture was recorded by Ronald Hutton, Gresham professor of Divinity and professor of History at the University of Bristol both in UK, on 5th June 2024 at Barnard's Inn Hall, London and it will show what has been unusual about Europe in this global pattern, and why the notorious early modern witch hunts there commenced and ended.
