Having a birthday that falls on the same date can seem frustrating to a child, he might feel like competing to Jesus, the mythological figure celebrated on Christmas. Children need attention, they have to notice that they are accepted, even wanted, into a community or a group of persons and that can be troubling in the period of Christmas: most Christians are busy preparing for the celebration, out of city or visiting during these days, or tired or low on budget after the holiday.
But, if you are in such situation, you should not worry to much: Christmas day is the time to get double the presents when others get only one. The people that cares about you won't overlook your birthday because of the Christmas, it would rather remember it easier.
Here are a few tips to remember when you have to buy gifts for a birthday celebration on December 25th:
Do not combine the birthday and Christmas gifts. This means it will be a little more expensive than usual, but it's something that the feted person will enjoy for sure.
DO NOT wrap the birthday gift in Christmas paper. Everybody deserves to have a bright wrapped birthday themed present. You can use the Christmas paper for the second gift you give that particular person, when necessary.
Be creative in picking out a gift, don't buy a holiday themed one. Try to make the birthday gift as personal as you can (something that he wants or dreams about), he probably get enough of the holidays on their birthday as it is.
If you know that you or he will be out of town on Christmas contact him a few days befor in order to deliver the birthday gifts. When it's about a child you should consider (along with his parents and family) to celeberate his birthday before the holiday, and ask his friends and mates to help. The other children will enjoy having some good time twice (or any times they can). You can bring birthday cupcakes to school a few days before the holiday party, before school lets its students out for the break, or (even) a few days later, when all are back in town. For this you should make a cake separate from the Christmas desserts, it should always be in the favorite flavor of the child.
Put up birthday decorations as well as Christmas ones and give the feted person the best surprise of the year: something that ca vary from awaking him singing Happy birthday, getting the tickets for a desired trip or some adventure that he only dreamed about. It's not easy to do it every year, but you can only try.
