European Union says further mpox cases are likely to be found soon in Europe

The mpox outbreak appeared just a few days ago in Africa and the virus was already detected on countries like Pakistan and Sweden, and now the European Union's health agency has warned that additional cases of a new mpox variant are likely to be found in Europe in the coming days after Sweden confirmed the first infection outside Africa and in Europe.

Deutsche Welle News (DW News) is telling us that officials say the patient had been infected while staying in an area experiencing a major outbreak. That's not a good thing but it's how the viruses work and it's how the mpox epidemy may transform into a pandemy.

On Wednesday the World Health Organization declared a global public health emergency following an outbreak in Congo that had spread to neighboring countries. But both the WHO and the International Federation of the Red Cross are recommending that countries not close their borders.
