My own advice is to use Blogger.com just to learn about what blogging is, how to write and post things and whatever else you are doing for improving and advertising your blog like SEO (Search Engine Optimization). Your own blog is much better for you (you have a better control than you have on Google platform on how your website looks like and what you are uploading), you make the rules about the content (you can write about sex or LGBT or whatever you want to write in the limits of law and good sense - the Blogger platform has its rules and they may not match your rules).
You can earn money using your on blog because you can add it an online store or you can add ads on it or you can use it to promote your own services or products. Your choice is based on your experience so get that experience first - keep writing.
