Are you masking your Autism?

People's understanding of autism has changed over the last 40 years and the scientism may find a cure in less than another 40 years. Historically, autism was diagnosed based on narrow criteria but today, while still defined by social and communication difficulties, rigid interests and repetitive behaviours, the autism spectrum is far wider, and the historical under-diagnosis of women and girls is being addressed.

‘Autisms’ are more often discussed as neurodivergence rather than a single ‘disorder’ to be treated. Autism spectrum disorder (also called ASD) is a neurological and developmental disorder that affects how people interact with others, communicate, learn, and behave. Although autism can be diagnosed at any age, it is described as a “developmental disorder” because symptoms generally appear in the first 2 years of life.
